Detailed Accreditation Information

Accreditation is extremely important to Envirotreat. In 1992 the company decided to progress the development and verification of the technology through the Environmental Technology Innovation Scheme (ETIS). Accordingly the company formulated an ETIS proposal in conjunction with the DTI's Executive Agency for the Environment, Warren Spring Laboratory, focusing on Project Area G, Treatment of Organic Contaminants in Soil. The company was successful in securing a DOE grant for the project proposed, which by definition, had to include a full scale site demonstration of the technology application. This project was completed in 1995 and was successful, both in the development and verification of the technology and in its application. The University of Birmingham and a leading civil engineering contractor, May Gurney Limited, were additionally involved in the ETIS Scheme. Subsequent to the site trial being completed in 1995, further testing has been carried out to determine the long term effectiveness of the treatment. This work has been carried out under the supervision of Dr Abir Al-Tabbaa of Cambridge University. It has been demonstrated that the treated material exhibits excellent long term properties, both in terms of physical and chemical (leaching) properties.

NATO/CCMS Pilot Study

In 1993, Envirotreat was invited to participate in the NATO/CCMS Pilot Study on Evaluation of Demonstrated and Emerging Technologies for Treatment of Contaminated Land and Groundwater. This international forum enabled the technology to be peer reviewed, not only by NATO countries but also by invited countries from outside NATO, such as Australia and Japan. Envirotreat presented an interim paper to the international meeting held in Adelaide, Australia in 1996 and a final paper to the international meeting held in Denver, Colorado in 1997. The Pilot Study subsequently produced a final summary report on this phase of the Pilot Study, which includes a technical summary of the Envirotreat Process and Technology. Envirotreat subsequently participated in a focused NATO/CCMS Pilot Study on Reactive Barrier Systems and presented a paper to the Vienna Conference in 1998.

SAGTA/CL:AIRE

Envirotreat has also submitted papers to specialist working groups in the contaminated land field, including the Soil and Groundwater Technology Association (SAGTA) and University based collaboration groups evaluating specific contamination issues. In addition two projects involving the treatment of specialist wastes have been provisionally approved by CL:AIRE (Contaminated Land: Application In Real Environments) for evaluation and verification.
Millennium Product. In 1999, the Envirotreat Process was chosen as a Millennium Product by the Design Council. The Millennium Product was awarded in acknowledgement of the innovative design qualities of the Envirotreat Technology and its future capability for the remediation of contaminated land.

British Nautical Award

In 2001, the use of the Envirotreat E-clay® technology for a marine application was a major contributory factor in the success of the Mylor Harbour redevelopment in Cornwall, resulting in Mylor Yacht Club receiving the British Nautical Award for the Environment in 2001.

Quality Management Systems

Envirotreat is working towards ISO accreditation in the following areas;
• ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System
• ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
• OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety

Mobile Treatment Licence

Envirotreat hold a Mobile Treatment Licence (MTL). This licence covers the following applications;

• Solidification;
• Stabilisation;
• Bioremediation – in situ and ex-situ (windrows, biopiles, in-vessel bioreactors);
• Chemical treatment (including oxidation, dehalogenation);

Envirotreat has also been granted a Waste Management Licence by the Northern Ireland Environment & Heritage Service. The licence covers the "in-situ" and "ex-situ" treatment applications.
