Envirotreat Scotland Ltd was commissioned by East Renfrewshire Council to design and install a Permeable Reactive Barrier to address trivalent and hexavalent chromium contamination impacting an adjacent burn at a site in Muirend, Glasgow. Historically the site had been used for the disposal of chromite ore processing residue [COPR] – the site was capped and subsequently developed as sports / playing fields. The reactive barrier was installed along a section of the burn shown to be significantly impacted with chromium contamination – the barrier incorporated ChromeSorb technology with the dual capability to treat cationic trivalent chromium and anionic hexavalent chromium.
