Envirotreat Technologies Ltd was commissioned by Barking Riverside Limited (CGL) to design and implement an integrated remediation strategy to address groundwater contamination migrating from a former landfill. Barking Riverside is one of the largest development sites in London (185 hectares). It is proposed that 10,800 new homes will be built over the next 20 years. The development will benefit from new transport links such as the East London Transit and the Docklands Light Railway and new primary and secondary schools. The remediation works involved the installation of a Permeable Reactive Barrier System (800m of permeable reactive barrier and 150m of low permeability barrier sections designed to protect the Gores Brook on the eastern boundary and the River Thames on the southern boundary) and the treatment of spent oxide and other contamination hot-spots on the site utilising E-Clay Stabilisation. The environmental consultants were CGL.
