Commissioned by Thomas Vale to provide technical support services for the enabling works at a new school development in Perry Barr, Birmingham

Envirotreat Technologies Ltd was commissioned by Thomas Vale to provide technical support services for the enabling works at a new school development in Perry Barr, Birmingham. The site was previously occupied by the former IMI Witton (Kynoch) Works.

Envirotreat developed a remediation strategy to address the identified contamination issues on the site (predominantly hydrocarbon and asbestos contamination associated with historical activities on the site). The approved remediation strategy incorporated a ‘watching brief’ and analytical testing of soils / stockpiles at key stages during the enabling works – the objective was to provide a practical and cost-effective remediation approach for the site whereby geotechnically suitable material was retained on-site and only inert and natural soils were disposed of offsite (resulting in significant time and cost savings to the client).

Envirotreat was additionally commissioned to undertake the validation of other key elements of remediation works (including the installation of gas membranes and the importation of suitable materials for use in the capping layer and general landscaping).

The photograph shows the management of the enabling works through the ‘watching brief’.
