Envirotreat has been commissioned by CJ O’Shea to deliver a complex remediation and soil management works package at a former industrial site at Hackney Wick, East London.
The site had historically been used for a variety of industries including a chemical works, a dye works, vehicle repair works and most recently a waste transfer station; following remediation and enabling works the site will see residential redevelopment for around 500 new apartments along with roadways, public open space and basement parking.
The remediation works comprised the excavation and disposal of 3,000 Tonnes of grossly contaminated soil (BTEX, PAHs and TPH), removal and disposal of 4 Nofoam filled underground fuel storage tanks, decommissioning of 9 boreholes followed by the application of Envirotreat’s StabOx technology in the form of a Permeable Reactove Barrier at the eastern and southern site boundaries to address residual dissolved phase organic contamination and protect adjacent controlled waters from continued impacts from the site. The excavation and disposal required careful odour controls via the use of stategically placed odour neutraliser units and continued VOC monitoring at all 4 site boundaries to ensure the onsite controls were appropriate and that the adjacent residential areas were protected from any odour / VOC emisions from site during the works.
