Cooks Way, Hitchin

The site was originally developed during the mid /l ate 19th Century as a foundry and engineering works, manufacturing boilers for steam locomotives. During the 1950/60s additional warehousing was added; from the 1970s until the present the site was used for the storage of double glazing units.

Envirotreat has successfully completed the remediation works at Cooks Way, Hitchin treating a total of 1320 m³ of soils contaminated with Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH), arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, nickel, zinc, naphthalene and benzo(a)pyrene. The remediation strategy for Cooks Way was designed to address the source and indirectly the pathway contamination issues, with the intention of protecting the potential human health and groundwater receptors.
