Envirotreat was commissioned by Manx Heritage to provide consultancy support and advice following an excape of heating oil at the cafe. The incident had likely occured over several years and had impacted shallow soils around the landscaped areas, carpark and the downstairs bathroom.
Delineation was carried out to trace the extent (lateral and vertical) of the contamination which was confirmed to have impacted the landscape area adjacent to the supply tank and car park. The soil beneath the bathroom floor had also been impacted. The contaminated soisl were excavated and stockpiled to await disposal. Envirotreat carried out extensive delineation testing using PID and laboratory testing. A robust and sustainable remediation strategy was proposed in conjunction with Manx Heritage to guide the tender process.
Works are now complete and the cafe is looking to re-open early 2027 following refurbishment.
