Enabling works and surplus soils removal – Media City Plot D1

The development lies immediately adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal, a roughly square plot of land occupying 0.4 hectares on the
western edge of the Media City Development, Salford Quays.

Based on the success of C1, Envirotreat was commissioned by Bouygues, to prepare a remediation strategy for the management of soils onsite and associated
offsite disposal to enable the discharge of the relevant planning conditions stipulated by Salford City Council and the Environment
Agency.
The remediation strategy incorporated the following:

  • A proposed ‘remediation scheme’ to effectively delineate the identified hazardous classified soils from the non-hazardous soils to ensure appropriate off-site disposal
  • A ‘Discovery Strategy’ incorporating necessary protocols to address ‘contamination not previously
    identified’
  • A Verification Plan

5,040 tonnes of non-hazardous soils and 3,080 tonnes  of concrete / hardcore were removed from site for offsite disposal

The site was being developed for a new  canal side residential development.
